Mattea Cussel is "Juan de la Cierva" postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Translation and Interpreting at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Her research interests include the sociology of translation, particularly in relation to migration, health, literature, and the circulation of knowledge. She adopts transnational and social research methods in three main areas: a) critical approaches to migration and identity in the Spanish translation of Anglophone Latinx literature; b) the politics of translation and English as a lingua franca in the social sciences and the humanities; and, most recently, c) the relationship between intercultural communication and the right to health and access to healthcare for migrated populations. Her book Migration Literature in Translation: From Latinx Texts to Transnational Readers (2025) is published by Routledge. She is also currently coediting the second edition of the Routledge Handbook of Translation and Politics.
