Sowmya Maheswaran is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for European Ethnology (IfEE) and the Berlin Institute for Empirical Migration Research (BIM) at Humboldt University in Berlin. Her research and teaching focus on diverse forms of violence and resistance, particularly under conditions of war, post-war, displacement and diasporic exile. Furthermore, Maheswaran's research deals with local, regional and global dynamics of social and political transformation in the context development aid, infrastructural projects and human rights work.
Sowmya Maheswarans work combines political and global anthropology with critical migration research. She conducted ethnographic research in Sri Lanka, Germany and Mexico.
