Catarina Sampaio is a Ph.D. candidate and research fellow in Intercultural Relations at the Open University (Universidade Aberta), and a researcher at the Centre for the Study of Migrations and Intercultural Relations (CEMRI). She is currently working on the project “Adaptation, Resilience, and Social Integration: An Intersectional Study of Refugee Women in Portugal (Porto) and France (Paris),” for which she was awarded a doctoral scholarship by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). As part of her fieldwork, she is currently based in Paris, where she is conducting interviews with refugee women and reviewing academic literature in French related to her research topic. From March to September 2025, she is undertaking a doctoral research stay at the LIAgE research lab (Laboratoire Interculturalités, Apprentissages, Marges, Expériences) at Université Paris 8. During this period, she is also attending seminars, lectures, and conferences at Université Paris 8 and the Collège de France. She earned her Master’s degree in Intercultural Relations from the Open University, where she presented a dissertation entitled “Women and Forced Migration: Adaptation, Resilience, and Social Integration in Portugal,” which was selected for publication in book form by the Migration Observatory of the High Commission for Migration (OM/ACM, I.P.). She also holds a postgraduate diploma in Human Rights from Ius Gentium Conimbrigae / Centre for Human Rights (IGC/CDH) at the University of Coimbra, and a Bachelor’s degree in Languages and International Relations from the University of Porto. She has presented her work at both national and international conferences and has published in various academic outlets. At the Open University, she also serves as an e-learning tutor in the Bachelor’s program in Social Sciences, providing pedagogical support and guidance in virtual learning environments.
